The story of how Eagle and Bear ruled the world.
Many stories are told in order to explain the origins of the universe. This story will show that with appreciation, teamwork and joy, kingdoms can find order and comfort in one expression of unity.
Ruler of Land, Bear’s kingdom was harmonious and self-sufficient. Ruler over the air Eagle’s kingdom was equally harmonious. The two kingdoms, however, existed separately with no need for each other. Eagle’s family had all they needed. Bear’s family was strong and resilient. Little did they know that in time, they would forever intertwine to create an even greater harmony.
As time passed Bear and Eagle began to wonder about the nature that encompassed them. They were plagued by unanswered questions about where they came from and why they were on the earth. Separately they began a journey to find answers.
As Bear left his kingdom he felt high and mighty. He journeyed across frozen tundra and green forests. The further he moved from comfort and home the more unsure he began to feel. At the same time, as Eagle soured over mountain and sea riding beautiful thermals away from her home, she too began to feel unsure. At home, Bear expressed power and poise; Eagle expressed grace and beauty, but in this increasingly rough land they were quickly losing their confidence.
After many moons of adventure and growing uncertainty Bear arrived at the base of a great mountain; majestic and foreign. At his core he felt that this mountain would give him the answer he needed to make his kingdom complete. As Eagle approached the same mountain, she was blanketed in a sense that her answer laid ahead as well. Through the clouds Bear and Eagle were unable to see the summit. As they began their separate climbs, they began to tire from the journey. The barren terrain slowed their progress. Soon Bear and Eagle, on different sides of the mountain began to doubt their purpose. They could go no further. As Bear cried out in anguish, Eagle’s ears heard the sound on the wind. The sound was exactly how she felt. Drawn toward the sound she found strength in the hope that she was not alone. As Eagle came around the mountain she saw Bear on the ground. Immediately, she was filled with love and understanding. She soared, confident and strong to Bear’s side where she gently tapped him. “Get up she sweetly said”. Bear had not heard a more perfect tone. He looked over to Eagle. Immediately his legs became strong and he voice sure.
Together with Eagle’s ability to see the land ahead and Bear’s ability to navigate the difficult mountain they reached the summit. At the top they found nothing. In dismay they sat beside one another in silence. On top of the world, there was nowhere left to go. Eagle wondered to herself, what her purpose could possibly be? She could not possibly return to her Kingdom in defeat. Bear silently thought the same thing. Without being aware of it, they soon began to wonder these questions aloud:
What was at end of this journey? Why was there nothing on the mountain? Why they were there together? They began to wonder aloud. As they heard each other they discovered that they had the same questions. In this unity they were overwhelmed with a calm sense. As they discussed their purpose on the mountain Bear and Eagle began to lose track of the cold climate and passing time. They were warm and sustained by discovery. This ability to discover the answers to their own questions united them and allowed them to learn and grow.
After many moons, with great gratitude and humility, they returned together to their kingdoms. Not only did Bear and Eagle bring back a sense of completeness but were able to strengthen their kingdoms. Together they were safe in the confidence that they would deal with any problem.
That is the story of how Bear and Eagle came to rule the world, together.
